Today Google honors Stacey Milbern (1987-2020), a self-identified queer, Korean-American disability justice activist, who co-founded the disability justice movement and dedicated her life to advocating for marginalized communities.
At Greener Way Associates, we too are grateful for this beacon lighting the way for all that we can be as people. We thank Stacey and all who carry on her work! You are making the UN’s* Principles of the Earth Charter, on which Greener Way Associates is based a lived, actual reality. If we want a peaceful world, if we want food and water for ourselves and all, if we want to be able to have human life continue on this planet, each of us must embrace and practice these principles in our daily lives NOW! For the Earth Charter is a declaration of fundamental ethical principles for building a just, sustainable and peaceful global society in the 21st century.
Namely,
I. RESPECT AND CARE FOR THE COMMUNITY OF LIFE
II. ECOLOGICAL INTEGRITY
III. SOCIAL AND ECONOMIC JUSTICE
IV. DEMOCRACY, NONVIOLENCE, AND PEACE.
These are the principles our Greener Way training programs and activities are carrying out! No matter what your ability, or identity , if you’re a person of “good heart” Greener Way Associates welcomes you! Whether as a volunteer or intern, subscriber to our blog, partner or associate, consider joining us. Or perhaps contribute online to help support our on-the-job internships, focused on forming worker-owned microenterprises making these principles become practical everyday realities for all to enjoy!
“Let ours be a time remembered for the awakening of a new reverence for life, the firm resolve to achieve sustainability, the quickening of the struggle for justice and peace, and the joyful celebration of life.”
We invite you to join us! Contact us for more information.
* In 1987, the United Nations World Commission on Environment and Development issued a call for creation of a new charter that would set forth fundamental principles for sustainable development. The drafting of an Earth Charter was part of the unfinished business of the 1992 Rio Earth Summit.
