Earth Day 2023

On April 22, 2023, Greener Way Associates hosted a successful Earth Day celebration called “Committed to Creating Climate-Resilient Communities” at West Los Angeles College. The event opened with a press conference to mark the opening of the CA Center for Climate Change Education. The day was sunny and warm, making it a perfect day for visitors to explore the booths of the various exhibitors, including the Food & Water Watch, Southern California Watershed Alliance, Desal Response Group, Commission on Voluntary Service & Action, Noah’s Ark Landscaping, Defend Ballona Wetlands, SoCal 350 Climate Action
Heartfulness Institute, TURN, Next Chapter Individual, Couple, & Family Therapy, Baldwin Hills & Urban Watersheds Conservancy, Grassroots Coalition, Greywater Corps, Climate Reality Los Angeles, Citizens Coalition for a Safe Community, Home Grown Gardens, Sierra Club, and the Golden State Water Company.

Attendees had the chance to attend educational workshops and even participate in hands-on activities such as seed potting and building their own Olla. The event was filled with opportunities to learn about important environmental issues and to find volunteer opportunities with non-profit organizations.

Visitors were also able to meet and connect with elected officials who were present at the event, including Assemblymember Isaac G. Bryan.

The exhibitors shared information on ways to make homes and backyards more sustainable and discussed available rebates for homes and businesses. It was an opportunity for visitors to become part of the change they long to see and to transform climate anxiety into climate action.

The event was an overall success, and visitors left feeling empowered and inspired to make LA County a model for climate resilience. The establishment of the California Center for Climate Change Education at West Los Angeles College is a positive step towards achieving this goal. The center will help prepare students for careers in the clean energy and climate technology industries, and its establishment supports the district’s equity goals.

The Earth Day celebration was a fantastic opportunity for visitors to learn about the environment, connect with others, and take action towards creating a sustainable future.
